When Kip Moore turns his snapback hat backwards, he means business. The 37-year-old singer-songwriter was ready to get wild during his Mane Stage performance at the Stagecoach Country Music Festival in Indio on Saturday.
Going on at sunset, just as Mother Nature provided her own breathtaking light show painting the sky various shades of pink, purple and orange, Moore kicked off his set with “Wild Ones.” Fans flooded into the front-of-stage corral and roared along to his hit “Beer Money” and a countrified cover of Jimmy Eat World’s “The Middle.”
“I love being here,” Moore said during an interview in the backstage artist compound before his turn. “It’s one of those festivals that there’s so much hype around it that you find the different kind of energy in the crowd so I’m stoked to be back.”
Moore made his Stagecoach debut back in 2015, performing on the first night of the fest on the Mane Stage just before Jake Owen and headliner Tim McGraw.

“I love that sunset time slot,” he said, cracking a smile. “They’re not overboard drunk yet so it’s a good slot. They’re not there yet, but we’ll get them there, I know how these things go.”
The exclusivity of a Stagecoach appearance is something Moore takes seriously as he noted that he tends to change up his set – sometimes on the fly – based on what he’s feeling from the crowd.
“I’ve never been one of those that sticks to the same exact set so I’m definitely paying attention to what the vibe of the crowd is,” he said. “I feed off of what they’re giving me.”
Moore said he was stoked to be on the same bill as country music legend Willie Nelson, who performed on his 84th birthday in front of a massive crowd at the Palomino Stage, and genre icon and one of his biggest crushes, Shania Twain.
“Shania, she used to be my girl,” he said with a laugh. “It’s going to be neat to see her tonight, it’s nice to see her out playing again.”
Last month, Moore got his chance to play radio DJ as he hosted the weekday, midday show on KKGO Go Country 105.1 FM, an experience that he said he had a lot of fun doing and he also got to debut his new song, “More Girls Like You.”
Whereas his last album, “Wild Ones,” was more about going out, getting rowdy and having a good time, “More Girls Like You” has more sweeter sentiment. Moore said it’s a reflection of him becoming more open to the idea of settling down and eventually having children.
“I’m hoping that the new record will be out by early August,” he said. “I’ve been working on it so much and we shot a bunch of videos for it to put out throughout the summer so we’re ready and we’re excited.”
